The BAWA project is aimed at assisting the residents of
Bawa, a village in the West Province of Cameroon, Africa. Because of
its high altitude growing conditions, the village is capable of
producing very high grade coffee beans, but struggles to ship a
consistent finished product due in part to primitive growing, grading,
and drying processes and the lack of adequate and available
transportation. They also have a limited market to sell the coffee in,
as most of the surrounding villages also produce coffee; currently,
their primary market is France. This project was set up to help the
village develop the methodology to manufacture a superior finished
product, and aid them in developing better growing, finishing,
logistics and distribution systems so they can sell and export the
coffee at better prices, create a sustainable, ongoing business, to
fund the building of a much needed health center.
